Bid your price to all general contractors that are bidding a project.
Example how bidding to all GC’s increases your odds:
Let’s say that you bid electrical on a project and there are 3 general contractors bidding on the same project.
If you only bid your price to 1 general contractor you have a 1 in 3 chance of winning the job. In other words if the general contractor you bid your price to wins the job. And if your price is most competitive, you will likely win the job too.
But, if the GC you bid to does not win the job, and since you did not bid your price to all contractors, the winning contractor did not get a price from you, so you have no chance of winning the job.
If you bid your price to all 3 general contractor you have a much greater chance of winning the job because you bid your price to the winning contractor. Win more electrical jobs.

Tell your customer you are going to bid your price to all the general contractors bidding the job. Tell them you are going to give them the gest price and you will mark up your price higher to the other contractors.
Decide how much to increase or mark-up other contractors. It could be 1% to 5% whatever you decide. Make it clear to your client that they are a preferred customer and they get preferred pricing. How to bid to all GC’s
Call all general contractors bidding the job. (Do this early on so you are not scrambling around at the last minute.) Ask to speak with the person responsible for getting bids for the specific project you are bidding. Speak to the person and ask if it is OK for you to bid the job with them. Win more Electrical jobs.
Your purpose for speaking with them is two-fold.
- One – you want to bid the project and win it.
- Two – you want to develop a relationship with them so you can work with them on other projects in the future.
Be prepared to send them any information they request to qualify bidding their projects like insurance certifications, workers compensation certifications, bank information, etc.
Bidding to all contactors bidding a job greatly increases the likelihood of winning more projects. And introduces you to more potential customers to bid work to in the future.
